Editorial policy

How Bond Atlas selects sources, handles numerical examples, dates time-sensitive information and maintains a clear boundary between education and advice.

1. Educational scope

Bond Atlas publishes general information about fixed-income securities and related U.S. tax and market concepts. Content is not tailored to any reader's objectives, finances, tax bracket, horizon or risk capacity. We do not provide individualized recommendations, discretionary management, transaction services or promises of performance.

2. Source hierarchy

We prioritize documents closest to the rule or security being explained:

  1. Official product and legal sources: TreasuryDirect terms, auction announcements, offering documents and indentures.
  2. Tax sources: IRS publications, forms and instructions for the relevant tax year.
  3. Regulatory and investor-education sources: SEC, Investor.gov, FINRA and MSRB materials.
  4. Issuer primary documents: SEC filings, prospectuses, audited financial statements and rating rationales.

Secondary reporting may provide context but should not replace the primary source for a rule, rate, threshold or contractual term. External links point to the organization responsible for the information; their inclusion does not imply endorsement of Bond Atlas.

3. Dates and changing information

Each core guide displays a review date. A dated interest-rate example is not presented as live data. Readers are directed to official current information for rates, auction schedules, purchase rules, tax thresholds and filing requirements.

Material changes to official rules or identified errors trigger a content review. A review date reflects the most recent editorial check, not a guarantee that every external page remains unchanged after that date.

4. Examples and calculations

Worked examples use stated assumptions and are simplified where necessary. Bond pricing examples may ignore accrued interest, transaction costs, taxes, calls and default unless those factors are part of the illustration. Financial ratios are identified by formula because definitions can vary among analysts and issuers.

Hypothetical issuers are labeled as fictional. No example should be interpreted as a projection, recommended allocation or expected realized return.

5. Language and presentation

We aim for precise, neutral explanations. We avoid claims that a security is automatically “safe,” “best,” “risk-free” or suitable for a particular reader. Higher yields are discussed in relation to risk rather than presented as an uncomplicated advantage.

Risks and limitations appear near the relevant explanation, not only in a footer. Tables comparing structures do not constitute product rankings.

6. Independence and conflicts

Bond Atlas is not affiliated with the U.S. Treasury, IRS, SEC or FINRA. Original illustrations do not reproduce government seals and are not intended to suggest agency endorsement. If advertising or analytics services are introduced, the site's privacy information and relevant disclosures must be updated before or when those services are enabled.

7. Corrections and updates

When a substantive error is identified, the article should be corrected against the primary source. Material corrections should be noted near the article's source section rather than hidden by simply changing the review date. Broken or redirected official links should be updated during subsequent review.

8. Search and accessibility

Page titles and summaries are written to describe the actual content. We avoid keyword stuffing, automatically generated filler and invisible promotional text. Navigation, headings, alternative text and responsive tables are designed to make the substance usable across devices and assistive technologies.

Reader responsibility

Use the guides as a map to primary documents. Confirm current rules and seek qualified professional advice for decisions that depend on your personal circumstances.
